Amusan broke a world record in the semifinals of the athletic event and became the first Nigerian to win a World Championship gold medal in the final.

Buhari congratulated Amusan for “making the Nigerian national song echo anew from the world platform, leaving the people with enthusiasm and indelible memories of tears of joy and success; hope and victory; disbelief and belief.”

He stated that the golden girl’s famous career and achievements will continue to inspire future generations of Nigerian athletes to attain amazing success.

The President also congratulated Ese Brume on her silver medal in the women’s long jump event, which she won with honor and joy.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, also praised Amusa, saying, “This is another spectacular record coming from an Ogun State indigene.” She has reaffirmed Ogun State’s sporting greatness, and we are quite proud of her.”

According to Abiodun’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, Amusan’s achievement “is heart-warming and a source of pride to not just the black race but the nation and Ogun State in particular.”

During the COVID-19 epidemic, his government declared the adoption of the brilliant Ijebu-Ode-born athlete as advocated by the Minister of Youths and Sport, Sunday Dare, when he visited Ogun State. “We were there for her. We are a state full of firsts. Here’s another piece of evidence. That accomplishment in Oregon makes me extremely proud. She’s one of our biggest sports exports, and we’re proud to be affiliated with her.”

In congratulating the great athlete, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki called him a “worthy ambassador of the country,” adding, “Amusan, a two-time African Games champion, has continued to blaze the route, placing the country on the world map for good.”

“Her outstanding performance at the weekend’s worldwide tournament was a perfect show of the persistent and resilient Nigerian spirit.” We are pleased with her accomplishments and are convinced that she will bring more honor to the country.”

Noting that the win is an amazing encouragement for Nigerian youngsters to pursue hard work, Obaseki stated that his administration would continue to invest in the sports industry in order to provide more possibilities for Edo youths.

In his remarks, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, said Amusan is an example of what Nigerian youth can do with the correct leadership.

Obi stated in a post on his official Twitter profile @PeterObi that her tears at the platform demonstrate how Nigeria requires leaders to bring the dreams and skills of Nigerian youngsters to fulfillment.

“I truly congratulate Tobi Amusan for winning the gold medal in the 100m hurdles and breaking a world record,” he wrote. Her tears at the event stage as the Nigerian song played demonstrate that our beautiful country requires leaders to match the abilities and goals of its young.”

Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also congratulated Amusan and Ese Brume on their gold and silver medals in the championships.

Brume’s 7.02m silver-medal winning leap improved on her bronze medal from the previous competition.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, Okowa stated that he was overjoyed to learn of the duo’s outstanding achievements at the event.

He stated that such a winning mentality was required by Nigerians all over the world to turn things around for the country, and that the Delta government and people were proud of Amusan and Brume for their bravery.

“I was overjoyed to learn that Amusan had won a gold medal in the 100m hurdles and Ese Brume had won a silver medal in the women’s long jump.”

“Amusan created history by winning the 100m hurdles in a world record time of 12.06 seconds, becoming the first Nigerian to ever win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.”

“Ese Brume’s leap of 7.02m, an improvement over the 6.91m in the last championship, is also worthy of mention.”

“It is only such conquering mindset and patriotic heroism that will produce the much-needed transformation that Nigerians are longing for,” the governor said.
