Tems, a Nigerian superstar, appears on the soundtrack of the upcoming ‘Black Panther’ sequel ‘Wakanda Forever.‘ This surprise was disclosed when Marvel published the Wakanda Forever teaser on Sunday, July 24th, 2022, which included Tems performing a version of Bob Marley’sNo Woman, No Cry.’

The Importance of a Nigerian and African Artist on the ‘Wakanda Forever’ Soundtrack: The Black Panther franchise is based on the fictitious African kingdom of ‘Wakanda,’ which holds enormous sentimental and cultural importance for Africans and blacks worldwide.

Kendrick Lamar created the soundtrack album for the first episode of Black Panther, which featured musicians like as The Weeknd, SZA, Travis Scott, Future, Khalid, School Boy Q, Jorja Smith, Swalee, and James Blake, among others.

The noticeable lack of African artists provoked harsh criticism from Africans who felt marginalized in a film ostensibly about them. Tems’ selection may be intended to address this and give the film greater African representation.

Why Tems?:

Tems is presently one of the most popular Nigerian and African performers on the world stage. Since appearing on Wizkid’s ‘Essence,‘ she has gone on to attain international recognition, receiving the BET Award for Best International Act and appearing on Drake’s, Future’s, and, most recently, Beyonce’s albums.

Tems is an artist who appeals to black audiences in the United States and Europe, particularly Gen Z customers. She also has a sizable fan base in Nigeria and Africa, making her an ideal fit for an Afro-centric film.
