Apple recently introduced new iPhone 13 models, but it has already begun work on the iPhone 14. While insiders told 9to5Mac that the new models would have different CPUs, we also discovered that the iPhone 14 Pro models would have a higher screen due to the new design and that Apple is still working on satellite services.
Details about the iPhone 14
According to early iPhone 14 speculations, Apple’s smartphone portfolio in 2022 will include four new models, but no “small” variant. The next iPhone 14 (codenamed D27 and D28) will be offered in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes, with the existing 5.4-inch iPhone small model being phased out, according to our sources.
The display resolution of these mid-range phones will be the same as that of the existing iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The display of the premium iPhones 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max (codenamed D73 and D74) may, however, be significantly taller to fit the new “notch + pill” design that will replace the notch.
In terms of the chip problem, 9to5Mac’s sources confirm that two new iPhone 14 models will use the A15 chip, while two others will use a whole new technology. It’s worth mentioning that Apple presently has two A15 processors, one of which has an additional GPU core and 6GB of RAM (used in 13 Pro models).

The Apple Watch Series 7, for example, uses the same CPU as the Apple Watch Series 6, but the chips are referred to as “Apple S6” and “Apple S7” due to minor internal modifications to the SoC.
Satellite characteristics
Some sources stated that Apple was working on satellite communication technologies for the next iPhone models a few weeks before the iPhone 13 unveiling. Even though these technologies were never included in the iPhone 13 series, sources told 9to5Mac that Apple is still working on satellite communication for the iPhone.
Although it’s uncertain whether the technology will be ready in time for this year’s iPhone, Apple has been testing prototypes capable of sending text messages via satellite. Internally, the system is referred to as “Stewie.”
