WhatsApp has now made it possible for all users to transfer their entire chat history from Android to iOS and vice versa. The feature was first announced by the Meta-owned platform at the Galaxy Unpacked event in August 2021. The feature was previously available for testing to beta testers and was rolled out in a beta update. WhatsApp has also highlighted how to transfer the chat history on its website’s FAQ page. Unfortunately, WhatsApp call history cannot be transferred using the new feature.
WhatsApp, a Meta-owned instant messaging app, has officially announced the roll out of chat history transfer from Android to iOS and vice versa via Twitter. In a FAQ page on its website, the company has also highlighted how to transfer your chat history from an Android phone to an iPhone or from iOS to Android. WhatsApp first announced the feature at the Galaxy Unpacked event. Users can only transfer their chat history, not their WhatsApp call history or peer-to-peer payment history, with this feature.
The feature was first made available to beta testers after being unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event. According to a report, WhatsApp later rolled out the feature to more beta testers.
According to the FAQ, in order to transfer your chat history from an Android phone to an iPhone, users must first install the Move to iOS app on their Android device. The Android phone must be running Android 5 or higher, and the iPhone to which you want to transfer your chat history must be running iOS 15.5. Users must be on WhatsApp iOS version 2.22.10.70 or higher, and WhatsApp Android version 2.22.7.74 or higher, to use the feature. Both handsets should have the same phone number. However, the guide to transfer chat history from iOS to Android is still missing from the WhatsApp FAQ page.
To pair with the Move to iOS app and transfer data from their old Android phone, users must first factory reset their iPhone or purchase a new one. Both smartphones must be charged and linked to the same Wi-Fi network. One can connect the two using the iPhone’s hotspot. After the transfer is complete, the chat history on the Android phone will not be deleted. Users can easily begin the transfer process if the prerequisites are met.
